About the EU-Japan APP
The European Union - Japan Aviation Partnership Project (EU-Japan APP) is a cooperation framework between the EU and Japan to facilitate technical cooperation and exchanges in various civil aviation safety domains. The project started on 20 June 2023, the date on which the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) establishing this initiative.
The project will organise activities sharing knowledge, expertise, and best practices, aiming to strengthen the European and Japanese aviation industries' resilience and high standards.
The EU-Japan APP facilitates closer cooperation between the EU and Japan at an official, authority and industry levels. This is reflected in the project’s objective of enhancing the partnership between the EU and Japan in the civil aviation domain.
The project implies a close cooperation between EASA and various European stakeholders to bring best European aviation expertise to the project. Likewise on the side of Japan, the project interacts with Japanese stakeholders coordinated by JCAB.

On 14 May and 20 June, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) convened their experts to discuss continuing airworthiness (CAW) of type design processes and the issuance of Airworthiness Directives (AD) with the specific focus on Parts Departing from Aircraft (PDA).
